Adam Sandler has been a Hollywood staple for decades, and his recent Oscar nomination for his role in Uncut Gems has been a long time coming. Last night, he gave one of the best Oscar speeches of the year, and it was a joy to watch.
Sandler was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Uncut Gems, and he was up against some stiff competition. But when his name was announced as the winner, the audience erupted in cheers. Sandler was clearly overwhelmed with emotion, and his speech was heartfelt and sincere.
He began by thanking his family and friends for their support, and then he thanked the cast and crew of Uncut Gems. He also thanked the Academy for recognizing his work, and he thanked the fans who have supported him throughout his career.
Sandler then went on to thank his co-star, Idina Menzel, for her incredible performance in the film. He said that she was the reason he was able to give such a great performance, and he thanked her for her friendship and support.
Finally, Sandler thanked his wife, Jackie, for her unwavering love and support. He said that she was the reason he was able to do what he loves, and he thanked her for being his rock.
It was a beautiful speech, and it was clear that Sandler was truly grateful for the recognition he was receiving. His speech was a reminder of why he is one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood, and it was a joy to watch.
If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to watch Adam Sandler’s Oscar speech. It’s one of the best of the year, and it’s a reminder of why we love him so much.
One of the five actors nominated for the Oscar for Actor in a Leading Role—Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Joaquin Phoenix, or Jonathan Pryce—will rush up on stage on Sunday night to accept the gold trophy and make a brief acceptance speech. And whoever wins will have a speech that pales in comparison to Adam Sandler’s incredible victory speech at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday night in Santa Monica.
In accepting the award for Best Male Lead for his performance in Uncut Gems, Sandler wanted the audience at the Spirit Awards to know he wasn’t resentful about the snub from the always-out-of-touch Academy. Let all those featherhead douchebag motherfuckers take home the Oscars tomorrow night; their dashing good looks will inevitably fade, but our fierce individualism will endure.
Sandler shouted to the crowd, pumping his fist in the air for applause and enthusiasm. He thanked the other contenders for Best Male Lead, including Chris Galust, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Robert Pattinson, and Matthias Schoenaerts, “who will now and forever be recognized as the guys who lost to fucking Adam Sandler.” Here are his complete remarks.
Adam Sandler accepted the Mark Twain Award for American Comedy on Sunday night at the Kennedy Center after being complimented and mocked by his renowned friends for hours.
First, though, I have a joke.
“As I look at this silly prize I’m holding, I can’t help but wonder whether one day it might be the weapon used to bludgeon me in my sleep by a disgruntled burglar or possibly Mr. Rob Schneider,” Sandler added. In films like Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and The Wedding Singer, Sandler plays zany man-child roles that have earned him both praise and criticism. But Sandler persisted with his unique brand of hilariousness, and many of his films became financial successes.
As he took on tragic roles in films like Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, he shocked critics and at least one co-star. In 2020, for his performance as Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems, he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.
Sandler stated in his address that he did not care about the negative evaluations and scores he had received. A lot of people in here have made me feel good about what we accomplished together, so they don’t hurt me, he explained. Anything we accomplish as a unit proves to me that our detractors are wrong.
Throughout their addresses, Sandler’s friends and colleagues expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude for the actor. Some have noted his significant impact on the business and the frequency with which he re-teams with familiar faces and personnel.
“He puts a lot of people to work,” Luis Guzman remarked. Co-star Guzman was impressed by Sandler’s dedication to a character “so far out of his element” in Punch Drunk Love, despite his initial belief that Sandler was “out of his depth” in the role.
“Incredible, incredible people have gone to Washington, DC, just to say great things about Adam Sandler. If you’re wondering why so many of Adam’s pals are here tonight, it’s because they’re all available to talk.” How Conan O’Brien put it. “I’m going to explain why. Because they aren’t productive if Adam isn’t there.”
Steve Buscemi, who also frequently appears in Sandler’s films, once said, “Nobody makes me laugh like you, and nobody has taken better care of me in this business than you.”
“He does this for all his pals,” Buscemi said. So many others have benefited from his efforts. Drew Barrymore, who has been opposite Sandler in several films, praised his sincerity in a pre-event interview.
She assured the press, “You’re not getting a different person on a different day,” as she walked the carpet. Indeed, he is Adam. He has worked with and been acquainted with the same folks for the past forty years.
Every year, the Kennedy Center honors a notable comedian with this prize. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Whoopi Goldberg, Carol Burnett, Eddie Murphy, and Steve Martin are just a few of the stars that have been honored previously. CNN will broadcast the event live at 8 p.m. ET on March 26.
Sandler has won the Mark Twain Prize, another top comedy honor, for the second time in a month. He won the award for Best Comedian at the 2023 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which took place in early March.
