The legendary comic book series The Sandman by Neil Gaiman was considered unfilmable for many years.

What exactly is Netflix’s The Sandman, and why should you be thrilled about it?
The Sandman is a narrative that goes beyond the confines of space and time, transporting its readers to otherworldly regions and otherworldly dimensions. During an interview with Empire Magazine, Gaiman stated that each episode is “completely different” from the previous one. “You watch Episode 1 and say, ‘Oh, I get this thing: it’s like “Downton Abbey,” but with magic,’” the author stated, adding that “You get this feeling.”
“By the time Episode 2 rolls around and you meet Gregory the Gargoyle in The Dreaming, you’ll be scratching your head and asking, “What the heck is this?” Episode 5 is about as depressing and harrowing as anything is ever going to get, and then you have Episode 6, which is perhaps the most upbeat of all the episodes.
Which Sandman comics will be featured in Netflix’s The Sandman?
The first season of The Sandman will consist of eleven episodes, each of which will be an hour long.
