Christopher Eccleston’s departure from Doctor Who is one of the most controversial exits of any actor from the popular British sci-fi TV show. Although he only played the ninth regeneration of the Doctor for a single season, his choice to leave has been the subject of intense speculation ever since.

Eccleston has given various reasons for his exit, but the most commonly cited is his apparent discomfort with the work environment and politics surrounding the show. According to Eccleston, he didn’t enjoy the long hours and grueling shooting schedule required to film Doctor Who. Furthermore, he found it challenging to work under the demanding creative vision of the show’s producer, Russell T Davies.

In an interview with The Guardian, Eccleston said, “I left before it was done because I didn’t agree with the way the showrunner was handling things.
