Recently, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) revealed that he has received death threats following the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump. Schumer made the comments during an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Wednesday night.
The attack on the Capitol, which left five people dead, was an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Schumer said that he and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) were the targets of the attack, and that he has received death threats as a result.
“I’ve had some death threats,” Schumer said. “I’m not going to go into details, but they’re out there.”
Schumer also said that he and Pelosi were the targets of the attack because they are the two most visible Democratic leaders in Congress. He said that the attack was an attempt to “intimidate” them and other Democrats.
“It was an attempt to intimidate us, to try to stop us from doing our constitutional duty,” Schumer said. “It was an attempt to stop the peaceful transition of power.”
The attack on the Capitol was a shocking and violent reminder of the deep divisions in our country. It is unacceptable that Schumer and Pelosi have been targeted with death threats simply for doing their jobs.
We must stand together to reject violence and hate in all forms. We must also stand together to ensure that our democracy is protected and that our leaders are able to do their jobs without fear of violence or intimidation.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer released a statement on Sunday saying he received death threats after discussing a hammer attack against the husband of House speaker Nacy Pelosi, Paul Pelosi.
Schumer (D-NY) said during his Spectrum News NY1 debate against Republican rival Joe Pinion. “There have been more threats against elected officials. It’s been documented that I’ve received a few. He added, “We have to calm the rhetoric down,” “and condemn violence where it occurs.”
He made this speech at Union College in Schenectady.
However, Pinion instantly asked Schumer for his arrogant speech and also said that he is r using divisive rhetoric and encouraging violence against two conservative Supreme Court justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. In March 2020, Schumer had said that the justices would “pay the price” if they voted to restrict abortion rights which caused a whole new controversy against the ongoing thing.
“There is only one person on this stage whose rhetoric has quite literally driven an American to the doorstep of a Supreme Court justice to kill him. That was Chuck Schumer,” Pinion said.
“It is Chuck Schumer’s whose divisive rhetoric has led to the environment we see today.”
Schumer said at the time, “‘You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You will not know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
Later, after making such agreements, The senator backtracked after facing public condemnation from Chief Justice John Roberts and GOP lawmakers, asking the people that they have been receiving political backlash.
In Sunday night, Schumer said, “The words I used that day were probably the wrong choice of words. I said that then and I say that now.”
But he insisted that “I have never advocated violence in any way. Never have, never do, never will.”
