It’s been a wild week for Star Wars fans, as a leaked video of a supposed new game set in the Star Wars universe has been making the rounds on the internet. Unfortunately, it appears that the game is not real.
The video, which was posted to YouTube, showed a game that appeared to be set in the Star Wars universe. It featured a character in a white robe, wielding a lightsaber, and fighting off a group of enemies. The video was quickly shared by Star Wars fans, who were excited at the prospect of a new game set in the beloved universe.
However, it appears that the video was a fake. Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars franchise, has confirmed that the video is not real. They have also stated that there are no plans for a new Star Wars game at this time.
While it’s disappointing that the video was a fake, it’s not surprising. Leaked videos of supposed new games are often fake, and it’s important to remember that until an official announcement is made, any leaked video should be taken with a grain of salt.
That being said, it’s still exciting to see the enthusiasm that Star Wars fans have for a new game. It’s clear that there is still a lot of love for the franchise, and that fans are eager for a new game set in the Star Wars universe. Hopefully, Lucasfilm will eventually announce a new game, and it will be just as exciting as the leaked video promised.
It so happened that a new Star Wars “game” was leaked online today; sadly though, it’s fake. You may be familiar with that, back in the day, a follow-up to Star Wars: Battlefront II, dubbed Star Wars: Battlefront III, was being developed; but the project never saw the light of day.
On Wednesday, it seemed as if all that was going to change when it so happened that the game was leaked on SteamDB, a site that tracks games uploaded to Steam’s backend.
To paraphrase an obvious conclusion; when a SteamDB listing leaks, it pretty much gave away and revealed that Electronic Arts was planning on resurrecting the game and bringing it to eighth/ninth generation of consoles. Sadly though, this doesn’t seem to be happening.
No Battlefront III?
The leak, in particular, seems to have arisen out of Steam EULAs via SteamDB developer Pavel Djundik. As per the leak, it was mentioned that a studio (that doesn’t exist) dubbed Haze Studios; which was the first clue that something wasn’t right. The next clue was that the cover art published with the listing was from 2009’s Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.
Soon after this, SteamDB clarified the situation at hand; and remarked the listing was “fake and not official.” The listing was subsequently updated and now there is no mention of the “leaked” Star Wars game.
But of course, it’s a possibility that this Battlefront III game will one day see be released for gamers to enjoy.
But, for now, there’s very little reason to believe it will. Not only is this listing a sham, but it feels like it would be a huge hassle for all the parties involved; and I’ve never seen Electronics Arts as a company that would want to make an honest buck while treating fans with dignity or a shred of respect.
