Vancouver, British Columbia, is where the principal photography occurs. On January 26, 2017, the series premiered with excellent ratings On October 9, 2019, season 4 premiered. The CW further extended the show for a new season, Riverdale Season 5 in January 2020, which began broadcasting on January 20, 2021.
The main premise revolves around Archie (K.J. Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), and plenty of brilliant actors that portray various other characters in the acclaimed series as they explore school, romance, and family while also being deeply involved in the eerie conundrums that envelop the Riverdale society. The town that was supposed to be ideal for dwelling does have several mysteries that can’t be kept hidden, making the complete journey highly recommended from start to finish.

The plot
The show is known for its creepy yet engaging storylines with clandestine characters and their backstories. Throw in good mayhem of relationships, conflicting interests, and brilliant family drama in between the seemingly difficult and abnormal teen life of the main characters. Nothing is impossible when it comes to the storyline of Riverdale.
Season 1 dealt with the sudden death of Jason Blossom and the mystery surrounding it. Most of season 2 went on to uncover the mystery behind the rampage killer, The Black Hood, understanding and dealing with Veronica’s controlling villain father Hiram Lodge who is up to no good for Riverdale who ropes in Archie to work for his ill intentions while Jughead becomes the new Serpent King following the gang war that ensues between the Serpents and the Ghoulies. By the end, an innocent Archie is arrested for a murder charge.
Season 3 of Riverdale was quite a weird frenzy, revolving around jailbreaking Archie, solving the mystery around an odd cult called The Farm that gained control over various town residents. The gang battled to solve the creepy yet mysterious game addiction of Griffins and Gargoyles. While both the things are dealt with by the end of the season finale, we see that Hiram Lodge has almost gained control of the town.
Season 4 was much anticipated because of the astounding flash-forward showing the possible death of Jughead. Well, the entire season revolves around the mysterious ‘fake’ death of Jughead, while the fake or not-fake Barchie romance plays a significant part, as Veronica vows to eat her father along with Cheryl in Rum business. While the mystery around Jug’s death and romantic façade gets resolved, the mysterious Videotapes that have been doing rounds throughout the season are left unsolved. The season was pulled off short because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Therefore the plot of Riverdale Season 5, picks up exactly where season 4 ends. The season opened with a massive Prom night that was crucial for the love square to move on in their lives as Betty and Archie confess their clandestine kiss to their partners. After graduation, we witness a 7-year long leap, after somehow everyone returns to their hometown, despite pursuing different paths. Previous mysteries solved and new mysteries emerging as the four friends tend to revive their hometown, all four are forced to address the skeletons in their closet. The introduction of new characters as a part of the grown-up friends along with a crossover makes the season a furthermore interesting plot to watch.

The return of Riverdale Season 5 and future
Riverdale Season 5 was releasing regular weekly episodes on the CW channel from January 20, 2021, and everything was going well till March 31, 2021, when suddenly, there were no new episodes to be watched. The fans were once again left hanging on a saucy cliffhanger.
The pandemic has once again come in between the release of further episodes of the loved show. From what we know that the show had just started shooting for the current season earlier in September 2020, therefore the cast might be still shooting the further episodes in Vancouver.

The Characters
The main reason for the ever-growing popularity of the show is – the characters. The powerful portrayal of the characters has always been the magnet that draws the viewership. In Riverdale, every character goes through a transformation. They must come to terms with who they are and who they want to be. Their emotional and psychological journey is quite a ride for the audience as well.
The character who went through the worst is probably Betty Cooper. From season 1 she has seen so much that in the end, it changed her completely. Initially, Betty was this sweet and kind girl who had a crush on her next-door neighbour Archie.
As the series progressed we learned what horror she had to endure, and that all alone. Her neurotic mother was anything but decent. Her cruel sarcasm and overbearing nature had a strong negative impact on Betty.
Archie broke her heart when she first confessed her feelings. Later she was separated from her sister, got stalked by Black Hood and saw Cheryl Blossom almost in the same place where Jason Blossom died.
Next, we have the character of Veronica Lodge. Veronica is originally from New York where she used to be an entitled, rich girl. She does not want to continue her previous life, it seems. She came to Riverdale to look for a fresh start in the first place. She was protected by her mother and was kept in the dark about her father who is the crime boss, Hiram Lodge.
Jughead is one of the most popular characters. He has a brooding, dark air about him that inevitably makes the viewer curious. Even though he is talented, confident and loyal, he did not like coming out of his shell. After having a rift with Archie, he slowly raises his voice. He falls in love with Betty and they both seem to have a strong bonding which is a power source for both of them.
Archie’s character is most typical. He personifies the complications, conflict, vigilantism, and conflict. He always has it difficult to figure things out. He somewhat lacks practicality.

Riverdale season 5 breaths of air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. On Thursdays, foreign viewers can watch the new episodes on Netflix except for the U.S. audiences who would need to stay 8 days after the season concludes to do so. The CW’s website and app, however, provide next-day streaming of Riverdale season 5 episodes to US citizens. However, if you can wait until the new season of The CW is released on Netflix so that you could just binge it all at once, be aware that COVID has had a significant impact on The CW’s release calendar.
