In that paragraph, I expressed concern that the season finale this week would contain a revelation that would invalidate how considerate Rick had been to Morty and make me look foolish. Regrettably, I deleted that section of my review because I thought it would “read better,” and as a result, I’ve lost the incredible trust I had gained from the Rick and Morty fanbase! The worst day of my life is right now! Fortunately, the season finale, “Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation,” is great!

Rick and Morty Season 6 Episode 10 Plot
The argument that Rick has been unusually 22% nicer because he replaced himself with a robot that is conditioned to be 22% nicer isn’t entirely moot because, as the robot claims, anything the robot does is technologically anything Rick has also done because Rick built him to make Morty happier. Additionally, Rick was offended when Morty called him uninteresting in the previous episode, which is why he constructed the bot in the very first place. Rick is concerned about his relationship with his grandson and wants to earn his family’s respect. He simply applied defective science to the problem. Rick has matured, yet in a way that is quite characteristically him.
There are some really interesting plot lines that emerge when it is revealed that the gentler Rick is actually a robot and that the real Rick is holed up in a basement level of his lab. As we watch the arcs of Robot Rick, Real Rick, and the President as they cross one other’s paths repeatedly, the plot develops in a truly organic way that culminates in a dramatic, Star Wars-inspired showdown. The character arc of Robot Rick is particularly clever because he transitions from acting in accordance with his programming to be gentler to his family and not reveal that he is a robot to feeling remorse for misleading them and wanting to reveal that he is a robot to wanting to pass away in order to escape the shame of frustrating his family.
Rick and Morty Season 6 Episode 10 Review
Although he always sounds wonderful as the President, Keith David’s role as a reoccurring figure has been somewhat hit or miss). But when it’s revealed that he’s a bitter Gen Xer Star Wars fan who has a bone to pick with how the brand has been denigrated in this episode, he’s the greatest he’s ever been. It’s a funny addition to the character, and it’s amazing how much of the story revolves around his Star Wars mania. This explains why this episode seems so strong and enjoyable. Even though it’s basically just your normal Rick and Morty sci-fi crazy involving robots, underground labs, and outer space, everything is constructed on a solid sitcom foundation of running jokes.
It became increasingly more difficult to imagine how they were going to be able to end the storyline with new adversary Rick Prime (also known as Weird Rick) as season six proceeded to pile on the (usually pretty entertaining) one-off adventures, and as it turned out, they didn’t even attempt. As a substitute, “Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation” closes with a humorous parody of the iconic “Rick and Morty forever, 100 years” speech for a season seven episode about finding Rick’s arch-enemy.

I must admit that I am anticipating it and am generally satisfied with what we have this year. Although it wasn’t always great, season six of the series was less sarcastic, friendlier, and character-driven after the worst season ever. With more great scenes than bad and one of the strongest season finales yet, it’s at least on a level with season four, if not higher.
Rick and Morty Season 6 Episode 10 Conclusion
It’s an odd solution to conclude a season whose running jokes haven’t always been effective in inverting concepts of meta and/or serialized storytelling. This seems like the ideal opportunity to pick up the plot lines that the season premiere, “Solaricks,” left unfinished after a series of desktop episodes.

Instead, you can’t help but believe the joke could be on us as this conclusion teases solutions that never materialize.
