The couple first met in 2006 at a Los Angeles club. McConaughey was immediately taken with Alves, but she wasn’t so sure. “I was like, ‘No, I’m not going to date an actor,’” she told People. “I was very clear about that.”
But McConaughey was persistent and eventually won her over. “He was very persistent,” Alves said. “He asked me out for dinner and I said, ‘No, I don’t date actors.’ He said, ‘Well, I’m not an actor. I’m just a guy.’”
The couple went on their first date a few days later and the rest is history. “We had a great time,” Alves said. “We talked for hours and hours and hours. We had a connection right away.”
The couple now have three children together and are still going strong. “We’ve been together for 14 years,” McConaughey said. “We’ve been married for eight. We’ve got three kids. We’re still in love.”
