HBO is set to bring the popular video game, The Last of Us, to the small screen with a new television series. The show is being developed by Craig Mazin, the creator of the hit HBO series Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, the creative director of the game. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming Last of Us TV show.
The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and released in 2013. The game follows the story of Joel and Ellie, two survivors of a zombie-like pandemic, as they travel across the United States in search of a cure. The game was praised for its story, characters, and gameplay, and has since spawned a sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which was released in 2020.
The Last of Us TV show will be an adaptation of the original game, and will follow the same story and characters. The show will be written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, and will be produced by Sony Pictures Television.
The show will star Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos) as Joel, and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie. Other cast members include Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Shannon Woodward (Westworld), and Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire).
The show will be set in the same post-apocalyptic world as the game, and will explore the same themes of survival, love, and hope. The show will also feature some of the same locations from the game, including the city of Pittsburgh.
The Last of Us TV show is currently in production, and is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in 2021. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
