Emily’s  journey

Emily will be soon back with Darren Star, the Director of Sex and the City!

Emily’s journey is not exactly a cakewalk. Paris is shown not only from a fan’s perspective but also from an outsider’s perspective. Not knowing the basic French language, Emily stumbles upon a lot while communicating. She is more than often misinterpreted and that leads to strange events. This is a voyage of a person who discovers the things about Paris from her experiences — both good, bad and weird.

Emily’s confidence is something that has become the key feature of her character. She does not understand the language of the people, but it does not scare her. She tries to learn and uncompromisingly expresses herself. She is comfortable in her skin and does not feel intimidated at all.

“Not only did playing Emily teach me more about myself, but also about the world around me. I couldn’t be happier to be back in Paris for Season 2 to expand upon those lessons, to continue to grow, and learn even more about this beautiful city and all of its character with Emily,” the actor said in a statement.

Fashion and Paris are undoubtedly the perfect combinations. Needless to say, there are a lot of interesting attires worn by Emily while in Paris. The designer behind Emily’s stunning looks is none other than Patricia Field who is responsible for creating the classic Carrie Bradshaw look in Sex and the City.

When asked was her inspiration regarding the creation of Emily’s style, she said the following —

“My inspiration came from an idea that I imagined a hybrid between an American girl from the Midwest, crossed with the Parisian style. As the show progresses, he adapts the Parisian style with his American twist, which means more colour to me. Emily often punctuates her everyday looks with beanies and even sports an Eiffel Tower printed top ( by Alice + Olivia) on her first day at work at French luxury marketing firm Savoir. A move that expresses his naivety on the one hand, and his enthusiasm for this job opportunity on the other.”

Controversy

The show has faced a lot of heat due to its portrayal of French people and their culture. A lot of critics have commented on this matter and clearly shows that season 1 often comes across as the American way is the only way and French culture does not make much sense. The portrayal of the French people has hit nerves. Critics have said this kind of portrayal might lead to unnecessary ramifications. In these trying times, this move is far from ideal.

Darren Star has commented that the approach of the show must not be misconstrued. The show focuses on Emily’s view of a new country and her experience of cultural shock.
