Are you excited for the return of the hit British drama series Bodyguard? After a successful first season, the show is set to return for a second season. Fans of the show have been eagerly awaiting news of the release date, cast, plot, and trailer.

The first season of Bodyguard was a huge success, with the show becoming the most-watched drama series in the UK since records began. The show follows the story of David Budd, a war veteran and police sergeant who is assigned to protect the Home Secretary, Julia Montague. The show was praised for its gripping plot and intense action sequences.

The good news is that the show has been renewed for a second season. The show’s creator, Jed Mercurio, has confirmed that the show will return for a second season. However, no official release date has been announced yet.

The cast of the show is expected to remain the same, with Richard Madden reprising his role as David Budd and Keeley Hawes as Julia Montague. Other cast members include Gina McKee, Sophie Rundle, Vincent Franklin, and Pippa Haywood.

The plot of the second season is still under wraps, but it is expected to pick up where the first season left off. The show will likely explore the aftermath of the events of the first season and the consequences of David’s actions.

However, there have been certain singles that have been more popular than others over the years. In 2018, “Line of Duty” creator Jed Mercurio produced a new criminal procedural named “Bodyguard.” When “Bodyguard” was released, Richard Madden starred as Sergeant David Budd, a highly-skilled police officer suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. As soon as Netflix got its hands on the show and made it available to a worldwide audience, it became an instant success.”

Julia Montague’s Home Secretary Julia Montague is the subject of the first season of “Bodyguard,” which follows Budd while he serves as Montague’s bodyguard. Budd’s investigations into a political scheme involving terrorism, cybersecurity, and collusion begin almost immediately after he starts his new job, and he must also contend with the breakdown of his own psyche.

You never know what’s going to happen next in the first season’s six episodes’ worth of frightening moments. ‘Bodyguard’ received a perfect score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from both viewers and reviewers. Season 1 finished with a whimper, and shortly after, fans were begging for a second season to begin.

As of this writing, the following is all we know about “Bodyguard” Season 2.

Bodyguard Season Release Date

What a difficult question to answer. When “Bodyguard” premiered in August and September of last year, fans knew it would be a while until the second season was broadcast, which is typical for British television series.

Since the first season concluded, Madden, Mercurio, and the rest of the “Bodyguard” cast and crew have been discussing the possibility of a second season, and it appears almost certain. Exactly when will this happen is still up in the air.

In an interview with Deadline back in 2018, just after BBC’s “Bodyguard” premiered on Netflix, Madden expressed confidence that Season 2 will take place, adding, “I think it’s going to happen.”

“I’m going to meet Jed in a couple of weeks, to have a chat and see what’s in his brilliant brain.”

As recently as mid-2019, Mercurio indicated at the Banff World Music Festival that he was in discussions with the BBC, but that Season 2 had not yet been officially approved (via The Hollywood Reporter).

In late 2019, actor Nicholas Gleaves, who portrayed Roger Penhaligon in the first season of “Bodyguard,” told RadioTimes that he had spoken with a producer who “definitely promised” a second season, but that nothing was certain until the show’s renewal was officially announced.

As of 2021, Madden has finished filming his roles in the films “From Now” and “Eternals,” which leaves him with a reasonably clean schedule to return to the series “Bodyguard.” According to the timeframe, the earliest new episodes may be released late next year or early in 2023, unless the BBC gets the production process underway very fast and efficiently.

Bodyguard Season 2 Cast

BodyGuard Season 2

In the first place, “Bodyguard” wouldn’t be the same without PS Budd, so it’s reasonable to assume that Madden will reprise his role as the show’s titular character.

Gina McKee as Commander Anne Sampson, who is in charge of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, Sophie Rundle as Vicky Budd, PS Budd’s estranged wife and the mother of their two children, Nina Toussaint-White as DS Louise Rayburn, a Counter Terrorism officer who appears to trust Budd despite the investigation against him, and Ash Tandon as DCI Deepak Sharma, an intelligent investigator who belatedly discovers.

Even though it’s safe to assume that Hawes will not be reprising his role as Montague, there are some other members of the supporting cast who could appear in future storylines, such as Vincent Franklin as Minister of State Mike Travis, Stuart Bowman as Director General of MI-5 Stephen Hunter-Dunn, Pippa Haywood as corrupt CSI Lorraine Craddock, and Michael Schaeffer as the mysterious “Richard Longcross.”

There is a possibility that the new episodes will also include a time leap, so be prepared to meet some new people in Budd’s life.

Bodyguard Season 2: Plot

Budd successfully finds who is responsible for Montague’s killing, as well as a few individuals inside the government who are manipulating the system to enable for shady activities to go undiscovered towards the conclusion of Season 1.

Budd is formally exonerated of all charges in connection with Montague’s murder, and he decides to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in order to rebuild his relationships with Vicky and his children.

Given the state of their relationship at the conclusion of the season, it appears like Budd and Vicky will not be reuniting, with both intending to go on and meet other people, although they will continue to co-parent their children.

After everything comes to light, the British Prime Minister, as well as MI-5 director Hunter-Dunn, are compelled to retire from their positions. Longcross manages to evade capture, leaving the door open for the programme to further investigate who he is and what his motivations are.

The exchanges between Longcross and Budd in “Bodyguard” Season 1 are tight and exciting, and it would be fantastic to see that rivalry grow even further in the upcoming episodes of the television series. So yet, there is no information regarding the narrative of “Bodyguard” Season 2, however it is probable that the show may pick up the storey a few years later and introduce viewers to a much-changed Budd.
