It looks like fans of Pixar’s upcoming movie Soul will have to wait a bit longer to see the film. According to reports, the movie has been postponed from its original June 19th release date to the fall.
The news of the delay was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, who cited sources close to the production. The report states that the delay is due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has caused many movie theaters to close their doors.
Soul is the latest Pixar movie to be affected by the pandemic. The studio previously delayed the release of Onward, which was originally slated for a March 6th release. The movie was eventually released on Disney+ in April.
Soul is an original story about a middle school music teacher named Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx). Joe is on the verge of achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a professional jazz musician when he is suddenly transported to the afterlife. In the afterlife, he meets a soul named 22 (voiced by Tina Fey) who helps him find his way back to the land of the living.
The movie also features the voices of Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs, and Angela Bassett. It is directed by Pete Docter, who previously directed Up and Inside Out.
It’s unclear when Soul will be released in the fall, but it’s likely that the movie will be released on Disney+ as well as in theaters. Until then, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the movie.
